Well we survived PAX 2009 in Seattle. It was pretty crazy, and there were tons of sweaty, nerdy gamers all over the place.

We met several famous people there, including Wil Wheaton (of Star Trek TNG fame), Steve Jackson, Jonathan Coulton, and Jhonen Vasquez.

We played several new board games, some that aren't even available yet. My favorite was Nanuk which we'll be ordering as soon as possible. The Stars are Right was also really fun, although a little bit harder to get started with. I don't mean this in a bad way, though. It's just such a different type of game than I've played before. Well-worth learning and playing.

We also got two Waiting For Santa packs for Munchkin. They still aren't available for purchase through normal venues, but they had a very limited quantity available at PAX. I was too late to get any of the Fairy Dust packs.

We also met the folks from Flying Frog Productions, creators of Last Night On Earth. We met the actors that play Sally and Jake and got autographed photos from them. We also picked up the expansion for LNOE and preordered three new expansions coming out later this year.

More Liar’s Dice

We've been playing more Liar's Dice tonight. About 3 more hours today. Calling it quits before it gets out of hand.

Cooperative Board Game

Last night we played Pandemic with Ellie and Wade. I can't remember playing a cooperative board game like this before. Once we played through our first game (and lost quite badly), I think we started figuring out how to work together better, so our second game was successful. It was really fun, and quite strategic. And like I said, you have to work together, not against each other, to win the game.

Egyptian Ratscrew

I ran across the card game Egyptian Ratscrew today. According to the site it "has nothing to do with Egypt, rodents, or screws."

Most intriguing is the following quote, based on three sixes being played in a row:

which results in everyone losing, and mandates that the deck be completely burned by midnight and that no one else can play Ratscrew until the next day. This isn't superstition, this is pyromania.

Card games with the possibility of fire. That's good entertainment.

Hellgate Update

Well looks like they've disabled some things if you're not a "subscriber" now. Doesn't matter, I still love the game, and will fork out the $9.95 to subscribe. Game addiction is a terrible thing, and must be alleviated.

The game kicks pigu, though, and you really should subscribe. Play on Shulgoth server with me, I'm Wonko.

I haven't played much by way of computer games for the last 2+ years, I really haven't had a lot of time, but Hellgate London is looking like it's going to pull me out of "game retirement"—I got the demo and man is it cool! It's going to be released on Hallowe'en.

It's a combination of an RPG like the Diablo series, but also has FPS elements with a little MMO stuff on the side. It looks like it will be a lot of fun.
