Last night was racquetball night again. And once again, JP said he'd join us and backed out. I ended up playing MP as usual, but he beat me 2/3 games this time. He had some great shots.

Sound Trouncing
Afternoon watch, 8 bells (4:06 pm)

Yesterday MP and I played 3 games of racquetball (since JP keeps forgetting his clothes and backing out of his repeated requests to play cutthroat with us). I schooled MP on all 3 games, and even scored 15-2 on one of them. I think next time it will be a tough grudge match.

Yesterday’s workout

Yesterday MP and I did our normal weightlifting, but he was tired and I was still a bit tired myself, from all the working out I've been doing lately, so we did only 3 sets instead of 4 for bench presses. Not a big deal, really. Afterwards, we played a game of racquetball, towards the end JP waved at us through the window wondering if we'd play cutthroat with him. We invited him on down, and played 2 games with the three of us. It was good, we had some excellent volleys. My legs felt wobbly after the martial arts training lately, combined with all the running on the racquetball court. Hopefully that'll pass soon. I expect tonight will hold more stance training for me, as I have recently started the "Five Wheel Stance" form with JT.

Yesterday’s Game

MP and I played 3 games yesterday, I took him for 2 of them, but we had some excellent volleys going. We both worked real hard to make points and keep up. It was a lot of fun, though, and was really necessary, we haven't been hitting it very hard lately.

Another 10 pound mark

I passed another 10 pound mark on my weight loss history chart, I'm pretty excited about that. Especially considering how many cookies I ate last week. L's parents told the that Americans eat something like 370 pounds of cookies every year on the average. That's more than a pound a day, every day! I thought for sure with all those yummy oatmeal cookies I'd gained a bit. What a surprise to find I'd actually lost some.

Yesterday’s Racquetball Game

I forgot to mention yesterday's game. After doing our normal weightlifting workout, MP and I went to play racquetball. I won the first game, though it went long, about 22 minutes or so. Our second game was not looking good for me, I was behind 9 points, it was 3 to 12. I started scoring points, though, and came back to win 15-14. I was laughing so hard, I couldn't believe he basically handed me the game after being so far ahead...

Downsizing

Well, I'm down another pant size, but I haven't gone out and gotten any yet. I really could use some new exercise-type clothes, but I'd like to even out before I go buy new stuff, and I think I still have more to lose. So I'll keep tightening the belt (which is getting longer, too) until I get fed up with it all, then get new stuff. Perhaps around my birthday would be a good time, it's coming up in about two months...

Back Into Training
Morning watch, 8 bells (8:15 am)

Last night was the first time back training (gungfu) for me with JTP. My legs and shoulders are so sore this morning I can't believe it. And for some reason, before training I played two and a half games of racquetball. Not going to do that again.

The great thing is that my kicks are much better than they used to be. I didn't gain any weight over the holidays, and right now I'm at my lowest weight since I came home sick from China at the end of 1997. I've put more muscle on in the past few months than I've ever had as well. With the changes in my body that have taken place over the past five months, even though I haven't been training, I'm able to stretch better, kick higher, and move more fluidly. I still get worn out after training though. 🙂

Friday Night KungFu

Well, class was cancelled Friday night—JTP was going to see The Return of the King with family. I can't blame him. We were going to hold it Saturday morning, then he remembered he had to work, so with such a difficult schedule around the holidays, we decided to get back at it the week after Christmas. That'll be better anyway. I'm excited to get back in it, after the weight (and size) that I've lost, I've found that my kicks are much better, and I'm a lot more flexible. With all the racquetball lately, I'm in much better shape to take on the extra exercise. Plus JTP has learned a lot of things about the Choy Lay Fut system from his trips to Calgary for training that he's very excited about teaching, so it should be hard, but lots of fun, too. MP from work will be coming with me (at least to start, hopefully he will enjoy it as much as I do), and today SB (my neighbor) mentioned he wanted to get into some training.

Today’s workout

Wow, MP and I had a great time today. We did our normal weightlifting, etc, then went to play racquetball. We worked out for almost 2 hours today. We played 3 games of racquetball (I won 2 of them)—some of the best games we'd ever played. They were intense, we fought tooth and nail for most of our points. I just got out of the shower and feel good. Still cooling off from all that exercise...

Game off

Well today MP left early, so it's no exercise for me. I could probably use a day off, anyway. We did work out yesterday. For the last 2 weeks, we've been doing our bench presses at 155. So far, we've both been able to keep 4 sets of 15, but they're certainly more difficult. I think we'll continue to do them for the rest of the week, perhaps adding 5 pounds next week. We played 2 games of racquetball yesterday, and MP actually beat me both times. It was a rare event, but he did it fair and square.

Soreness

Well, I'm not as sore as I thought I'd be from all that exercise yesterday, but my forearms really hurt. They've been sore a lot lately, and I thought it was the racquetball, but yesterday after bench pressing, while I was warming up for racquetball, I noticed that my grip was making my arm sore (after having 4 days off), so I finally came to the conclusion that it is the weightlifting that is making my forearms sore.

At least all I have to do today is type... 🙂

Time flies

Today MP and I started off by adding weight, 5 pounds, to our normal bench press weight. Since we hit our 4x15@150 goal consistently last week, we decided to up it by 5 pounds. Well, it must have been the 4 days off, because we both pounded out 4 sets of 15 at 155 (which, incidentally, is 9300 pounds—if I could do that all at once I'd be buff). We finished up and started our normal round of racquetball, and got to about 7 or 8 points when DD tapped on the window looking for some action. We invited him down to join us for some cutthroat, and ended up playing 3 games (I won 2 of them). We had some excellent volleys, and it was very fun. I didn't realize we'd been playing for so long, because by the time we finished, we'd been working out for two and a half hours!

Pre-Thanksgiving binge exercisers

Today we saw our first competition for the racquetball court in months. I think it's because Thanksgiving is coming up. We'll probably see them for a few more days and they'll forget about exercising again. But they'll come back when they make New Year Resolutions to exercise...for another week or so anyway.

We lifted today, and though we were both quite sore, we still made our goal of 4x15@150. Next Monday we add on 5 pounds and see what happens. We played one game of racquetball, which I kicked butt at. Well, not totally, I won 15-11. At least it's a comeback from my gimpy 15-2 game yesterday.

Yesterday MP and I played some more racquetball, but I was going real easy on my foot, so he won every game. He even almost shut me out (15-2) on the last game. The first game was 14-15 though, I gave him a good run for his money even with my gimpy foot...
