First watch, 4 bells (10:12 pm)

I've been blogtarded lately and haven't written anything for quite a while. I guess Twitter has filled what little output needs I've had lately.

Work has been busy—very busy. I'm behind on projects because other things come up. My backup system at the office died and I've got a lot of new equipment in to replace the old system. Having chosen to upgrade instead of replace hardware (it was five years old), I had several other peripheral systems that needed upgrading as well. Because my new LTO-5 tape drive has a SAS connection, I had to get a new server that supported SAS. And because I needed a new server, I had to move all the data storage to the new server, but the old storage was Ultra320 SCSI. So I had to buy a new storage vault. It uses iSCSI, which is some very cool tech: it's a network block protocol, and connects to my server via gigabit CAT5e. And since I was replacing just about everything, it was time to upgrade my backup software, too.

I've only today got things working and have high confidence that I will have a full, clean backup tonight.

Hopefully this means I can concentrate on getting my other work finished now.

On a side note, Lorien and I have memberships at the Cd'A Kroc Center and I'm committing myself to work out there every weeknight. You can catch me there starting around 8pm. It's a really nice place, and we're excited to have a plan to get fit together.

Face Mangulation
Forenoon watch, 1 bell (8:42 am)

Last night while playing racquetball I hit my nose with my racquet. I was really surprised that it didn't bleed. Then my wife hit a ball into my cheek (luckily it just missed where I hit my nose). I still won all four games though.

Day of Misfortune
First watch, 5 bells (10:32 pm)

Well this day went weird, but overall I'd give it a 2 on a 1-10 scale. I played five games of racquetball (four of them cutthroat), and won four (that wasn't too bad). When I left the office, I got out to my car and found that I had a very flat front passenger tire. I couldn't get the spare off, the stupid hook just wasn't working right, and when AAA finally arrived the guy just disconnected it like it was nothing. So I got out of there and down to the Inn only to have my phone go off with a notification that our webserver was down. It was 9:55pm, and out co-located service provider closes at 10. I called and got the message that they weren't around, but I hoped that I could catch them on their way out, so I immediately drove over to their office (about three blocks from the Inn), and I did catch the guy as he was leaving, so I was able to powercycle the machine and get everything back online.

Not the greatest day, but at least (most of) my problems got solved. I have to hit Les Schwab in the morning and get the spike pulled from my tire (I'll try to remember to get a picture of it).

More Cutthroat
Afternoon watch, 3 bells (1:45 pm)

Well I haven't posted much recently on the racquetball thing, because I wasn't playing much. Lorien and I have started playing three times per week, and her dad (so far) has played with us. The games are, as you could imagine if you know her dad, very competitive.

Back on Track
Forenoon watch, 3 bells (9:35 am)

These past two weeks (excluding my little jaunt to Kentucky) have seen MP and I get back in to weightlifting and racquetball. Sometimes JM comes in to play cutthroat with us, too. We migrated from just doing bench presses and upper-body stuff to going around the full circuit of (extremely old) Nautilus machines, then down to the court for some racquetball.

Today, I am two pounds under my lowest weight in 6 years. I feel pretty darn good about that.

Bruises and Welts
Afternoon watch, 3 bells (1:43 pm)

I need a T-Shirt that says something like "Hit me, I play racquetball". It should have a big target on the back, too. Yesterday while playing cutthroat with MP and AM I got hit four times, once quite hard right on my tricep. I have a nasty red welt there now. I didn't know it was there until I was in the shower this morning and I ran the soap over my arm and winced in pain. So bruises and welts make my "Things that are Not Cool" category this week.

Exercise? What’s that?
Forenoon watch, 4 bells (10:12 am)

I have been getting exercise lately, really. I mean it. I just don't always write about it. Especially when I lose 🙁

Yesterday I did some weight training with MP, then we went and played racquetball—I won, but the previous time we played I lost 2 games. After the weight training (we went at it pretty darn hard), I felt a little sick, but it passed after I caught my breath. I haven't worked that hard (physically) in several weeks.

Face Time
First dog watch, 3 bells (5:39 pm)

Today, my face and the racquetball had a little time together. It was only a split second, but it was enough for my face to remember. Ouch.

Frisbee Golf Course
Forenoon watch, 8 bells (12:17 pm)

TS and I just layed out an 18 hole frisbee golf course on the grounds around the office building, the back 9 holes are a bit harder, but it only takes about 45 minutes to play. Pretty fun. We'll have another frisbee golf tournament this year at the company picnic, I'm sure.

Frisbee Golf
Afternoon watch, 3 bells (1:54 pm)

Went out for lunch today with TS and played frisbee golf in the trees around the office building. It was nice. We played 2 rounds, took about 15 minutes each. The weather is warm enough to start thinking about going to Farragut to their course, though it is a tough one.

Yesterday’s Game
Forenoon watch, 6 bells (11:18 am)

Yesterday MP and I played two games of racquetball. He trounced on me for the first half of the first game (it was 9-0!), but I came back a bit. He won 15-8 though. I did win the second game, so we came out even. We had some great rallies. On one shot, I even slipped my grip on my racquet to the tips of my fingers to get the extra reach I needed to hit the ball, and made it! I felt awesome after the game, it was very invigorating.

Weight Fluctuations
Forenoon watch, 4 bells (10:19 am)

Yesterday was strange. I weighed myself the same way I always do, same time, etc. I somehow gained five pounds from two days before!

Today those "mystery pounds" were gone. I've gone up and down, and that's normal, but this was weird. Must have been a lot of water or something.

I wish I could lose five pounds everyday (well, for a week maybe). 😉

Trading times
Afternoon watch, 7 bells (3:46 pm)

Well JS and I traded times today, so we're back on for 4pm, like we like it.

Ignoring the topic
Afternoon watch, 4 bells (2:07 pm)

Well, I'm not really ignoring this category on purpose, just haven't written much about it lately. I played MP on Monday, two games, and won both, although the second one was very close. Today we're playing cutthroat at 3pm with JP. JT and JS reserved the court at 4pm, when we normally like to play.

Weightlifting is going well, aside from taking an almost two week break and trying to bust right back into it yesterday. I'm a bit sore because of that today.

Lonely Topic
Forenoon watch, 3 bells (9:52 am)

Well this topic hasn't had any posts for a while, so I thought I'd fill it in a bit. MP and I are still weightlifting and playing racquetball. Yesterday we were a bit short on time, so we only did 2 sets of bench presses (160 lbs) and only played one game of racquetball (I won). But we had some long volleys, one of the longest we'd ever done if I remember right. It took us 30 minutes to play just the one game. Our typical games are 15-20 minutes nowadays.
