We won't tell everyone that you're 40. Oops, I just did.
I haven't posted about Cafe Chulo yet, but I've been there many times for some good Mexican food. Their sweet pork is super tasty, and you will develop cravings for it. They make all their own tortillas on site, and you can often see them mixing the dough, flattening out the tortillas, or cooking them when you walk in.
Their burrito meal is gigantic, and you have a good choice of additional stuffings. Their tortilla chips are always fresh. I also really like the enchiladas, which I typically order. I only order the burrito when I'm really hungry because it's that hard to finish. If you get the burrito, make sure you get it Chulo style.
It's not usually crowded if you go a little early or just after the normal lunch rush, but there can be a short wait right around noon. I've never had to wait for more than a couple of minutes, though. Make sure you try their Chili and Lime sauce (next to the soda machine), it's terrific!
Tonight Wes, Lorien, and I went out for slurpees to celebrate Lorien's birthday, and to break up a 50 round Mario Party 8 game on the Wii. The 7-11 employee was new, but he was cool. He mentioned Lorien and I didn't have the anodized aluminum slurpee straws like Wes did. Wes mentioned he had to drill out the lid to fit the straw down, and the employee said "I just trached mine"—it was awesome.
PS Slurpee in Chinese is 思樂冰: Ponder Happiness Ice
Today is my wife Lorien's birthday. I love you, happy birthday!
- Heard Leicester pronounced "Lee-Chester" today. Spoken like a true American. #fail #
- Waiting for inlaws to come over for dinner. Some kind of soupy, stewey thing. Plus, my sourdough starter is active again! #

- My wife called very excited to tell me she just got a part-time job...reading books. No better job in the world for that woman... #
- Chatting with some friends in Taiwan while I wait for my wife to call and we can go to Costco. #

- Got some funky problem with Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4. Can't save cases. Everything else works fine. Happened while I was at lunch... #
- The "funky" problem was MS SQL Server 2005 blocking certain requests from the CRM server. Why that started is a mystery. Reboot of SQL fixed #
- Leaving work. Frustrated servers are working against me and didn't have time to get to my other projects... #
- Waiting to see Where the Wild Things Are. iPhone typoed "Things" as "Thongs." That's a whole different type of movie.. #
- Where The Wild Thongs Are #badhalloweencostumes #
- Geology ROCKS! #
- Was considering taking half of the day off today. Now I'm running a server upgrade at 4pm. I has a sad nao. #
- Much like a watched pot never boils, a watched Windows copy operation never finishes. #
- So much for that half day of work.. #
We went to dinner last night with Ellie and Gwen (Ellie's daughter). Ellie's husband Wade was using our 'net connection at home to teach an online seminar. Ellie, Gwen, and Lorien were waiting for me at the restaurant, and when I arrived I was sorely tempted to tell the hostess "I'm meeting my wives here for dinner" just to see what her reaction would be.
I resisted, but only barely.
Let me save you the trouble:
Boy throws snowballs at older sister's friends. Older sister's friends whitewash boy. Boy trashes sister's room, bites mom, runs away. Lives with socially maladjusted and emotionally crippled monsters for an indeterminate time.. Boy leaves monsters in the same state in which he found them. Boy returns home and eats chocolate cake.
PS Don't take your kids. I saw kids playing on the stairs during the movie. It didn't hold their attention very well.
PPS I fat-fingered the name of the movie on my iPhone yesterday, the typo was Where the Wild Thongs Are. I did catch it before posting, though.
My laptop is in restart purgatory right now after it attempted to install Vista SP 2. I'm at my second reboot and it's still saying Service Pack did not install. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer.
This is why people like me have jobs. Thanks, Micro$oft!
Today is my mom's birthday. I don't think she reads my blog, but just in case—happy birthday, mom!
I recently got another starter from my uncle (I accidentally killed the last one—with insecticide believe it or not, but I digress…). I fed it, and took a bit out for a loaf of bread, but it came out really dense, and didn't rise much over the 12 or so hours I left it alone.
So I decided to experiment a little. I took out a cup or so and fed it some flour, water, and about a half teaspoon of sugar. Nothing happened for about the first day, but then it started picking up pretty good. Last night I put it in a bigger bowl and fed it some more. This morning it was still bubbling away happily. It is a bit slow, but has great flavor. I think I'll be ready to make up a batch later tonight.
- Two nights in a row without decent sleep. It kills me
# - Now where did I leave my ice scraper? #
- Flogging Molly #musicmonday #
- Did my good deed for the day: gave some kids a dollar when they didn't have enough money at the checkout stand. It was the only cash on me. #
- A couple of people are out of the office sick. I think one of them has Hamthrax. #
- Waiting for my new stereo to be installed, so I have a few minutes of down time #
- Making Victorian Milk Bread #
- Latest creation, it smells delicious! http://yfrog.com/78u4cj #
- Any Post Falls/Coeur d'Alene people out there know why the NW Blvd exit was closed at 8am today? With 95N already closed?? #

- AW CRAP. New Dell motherboard that was just replaced has a bad BIOS clock. It won't keep time. At all. Needs to be replaced...again...

- RE: my voicemail. I had 180 messages, stretching 14 months back (the last time I did a similar bulk delete) #
- Being in IT, I get cell phone calls and have hallway meetings. By the time I get my voicemail it's usually way too late. #
- Especially when you consider how often I get around to checking my voicemail...
# - Just invented something in my head and then found it on the Internet: Reverse Sales Tax Calculator. Knew there had to be one out there... #
- One of my cow-orkers is sending me a Googe Wave invite. w00t. #
- Something you may not know about me: I have a massive aversion to laugh tracks. #
- Off to Ellie and Wade's house for dinner and game night. #
- O HAI Google Wave! #
- Had a cup of hot chocolate, despite the fact that temp is in the 50s. It gave me terrible heartburn
# - Off to fix a report issue #
- Report issue was what I thought: Microsoft ActiveX killbits breaks some print control in SQL Reporting Services. It's annoying. #
- Called my uncle, heading over to his house after work to pick up a new Giza culture sourdough starter. Mine croaked. It was my fault. #
- WTF?? Christopher Lee has a 3rd nipple in The Man With the Golden Gun, shown in opening scene??! #
- Working on some SQL import and AJAX stuff for Canadian postal codes. #
- Meh. Finally got in to Google Wave and I have nobody to talk to and no invites to distribute yet. #
- Got some @CarbonLeaf playing. Perfect to keep the afternoon pace going. #
- Can't wait to get home and make up a batch of sourdough bread! #
- Catching up on sci-fi shows I missed during the week while Lorien sleeps. It's best this way... #
To whack somebody, that is: Dead man on balcony ignored.
A 75-year-old dead man sat decomposing on his Marina del Rey balcony for days because neighbors thought the body was part of a Halloween display and didn’t call police.
I'll just file that away as useful information if I ever flip out and need to hide a body—do it around Halloween!
Er, book. The Lego Bible. Man the Internet is weird…
Plus, it's snarky!
Well, that was interesting. I heard from @Enfors that my RSS feed was truncated. Turns out there is a setting for Full Text in RSS feeds that wasn't set. I can only imagine that it was running in default mode, I've been running this blog for over six years now and this is the first time I've heard about it. I supposed I should have subscribed to my own feed
Okay, now that that's fixed, time to figure out Google Wave…
This is how I deal with voicemail. You have been warned.
