I'm working on installing a copy of Intel's VTune performance analyzer on the current release version of Ubuntu. I fetched the kernel sources and was perusing the Makefile when I ran across the kernel name: Erotic Pickled Herring. WHAT YOU SAY!! (Gratuitous AYBABTU reference here)
Anyway, this lead me to a a list of Linux kernel names. Honestly, I have a hard time picking my favorite!
If I get over 500 iPhone crash logs generated in one year, at least some of them can be entertaining:

ate bad food, hehe.
- Helped mom finish the daily crossword puzzle #
- Back at the place of work. To do work. For the whole day. #
- Picked up The Stars Are Right by @sjgames this past weekend. Looking for a pickup group at the office for lunch but my regulars are MIA #
- Took dinner to the wife at her parents' B&B, she's watching it for the next couple of days. #
- I have 538 iphone crash logs on my computer from one year of use. That's more than one crash per day! #
- Going to start a game of The Stars Are Right by @sjgames it's such a cool game... #
- Playing #munchkin and my brother's iPhone runs out of battery. He loses his Munchkin app bonus! Haha! #
- Brain feels like it's been a punching back at work this week. It sucks #
- Phone call with the boss over. Only 40 minutes. Good times. #
- Together we've actually figured out a lot of interesting stuff. But it's boring and work-related. #
- Taught Sarah and Frank to play The Stars Are Right by @sjgames. We are anxiously awaiting #nanuk! #
- Just finished preparing cilantro and lime fajita marinade. Chicken is soaking in the fridge right now. #
- Chatting with the boss again, text and email. It's amazing how many problems we've had installing a new SBS 2008 server on a new network #
- Also rekindled my love affair with the Slurpee. #
- Talked to boss on the phone again. You wouldn't think installing software would be this troublesome.. #
- Got texted by the boss twice while I was in a movie. Called when I got out, I think our problems are finally solved. Keeping my fingers x-ed #
- Mmmm, fajitas are smelling GOOD! #
- Time to track down that habanero sauce... #
- The fajitas are amazing. Soooo tasty! #
- Just placed my preorder for Nanuk from @sjgames and cannot wait until it ships! #
It takes between four and five limes to squeeze out one cup of fresh lime juice.
I was forwarded an article about running a program as administrator at login that outlines a very nice way of getting around the Windows has blocked some startup programs error. Use it for good, not evil
- Back at work. Sigh. #
- I would install Ububtu and use it as a portable development computer for my C++ MUD #adoptamini #
- Waiting for a call back from Cisco... Again. #
- My iPhone just got really hot and the screen wouldn't turn on. Somehow people still tell me this is better than Microsoft... #
- It has arrived!! http://yfrog.com/0ahbxzj #
- Virtualized brief and verbose object descriptions for my #mud. Things are looking much better now. #
- Also testing collections (eg coins). Complicated 'get' grammar works great so far. Splitting/aggregating works, too. #mud #
- Running valgrind on the #mud to see where the slowest parts are. Sooo slow. Takes 5+ minutes to load 1000 rooms. And I have 16,224.. #
- Trying to get lots of work done today. Keeping head down and fingers on keyboard #
- Downloading #Intel compiler and VTune software for open source projects. My #mud threads run faster with icpc. And that was with v9.1.047 #
- Texting with the boss. At 10pm. Yes, my job is _that_ cool. #
- #Intel #vtune finally finished downloading. at 30k/s. Felt like dial-up again. Just started downloading the compiler. Getting 75k..better... #
- Holy Effing Cow @Syfy I watched my browser try to load files from at least 6 different sites while opening a page on your site. FOR THE LOSE #
- Having a lot of trouble sleeping tonight. Do not want. #
- Ooh, look at all the new warnings, er REMARKS, I get with the Intel compiler... #
- Had a rough day yesterday, didn't sleep much the night before. Slept pretty good last night. #
- Best phrases from today's meeting: Grossly Correct #
- Another great one: "So you're saying your [project] uses SI units?" "No, I'm saying SCIENCE uses SI units." harhar #
- Nice job Spokane: convicted murderer mental patient with history of escape lost on "field trip" to the county fair... WTF??! #
- We just got to Portland. Hwy 395 was closed in tri-cities and the detour was majorly gay. Very poorly marked #
- Dinner at Salvador Molly's in Portland #
- Together we banked over 5k tickets at Wunderland! #
- Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day, me hearties! Going ta celebrate at the Portland Pirate Festival with Captain Bogg and Salty #
- Captain Bogg and Salty just too the stage at Portland Pirate Festival http://yfrog.com/15v41bj #
- Generator went down. The captain will be back in 5 or so #
Tomorrow we leave for a weekend in Portland. Off to see family etc etc. It's also the Portland Pirate Festival (Yarrr!) and Talk Like a Pirate day.
Just in case I'm not the only one to run across this issue, you must have libstdc++5 installed (use Synaptic Package Manager). It is not installed by default, even on a development system. libstdc++6 is, but the Intel compiler won't use it. You may be able to fake it by creating a symbolic link in /usr/lib, but it's not worth the trouble. Just install the old library, it doesn't hurt anything.
- Our time at PAX is over. Just got back from seeing JonThan Coulton and Paul and Storm in concert #

- Stopped at what may be Washington State's most popular rest area. So many cars! #

- Waiting in line for a haircut. #
- That was the longest haircut of my life. Note to self: next time find a non-OCD hairstylist. #
- Just made 冬瓜茶 (Winter melon/wax gourd tea) for Lorien. She made a funny face when she tried it. I miss the flavors from Taiwan... #
I received my copy of Richard Bartle's card game Spymaster in the mail today. I ordered just as I was returning from PAX 2009.
I must say I'm most impressed with the look-and-feel of the design. The cards, pictures, fonts, etc were all well-chosen and carry a cold-war style that contributes great atmosphere to the game. It also came with several blank cards. Good when your spies get assassinated, I guess. By a small child with a teething problem (as opposed to in-game when they face an assassin).
Work has been pretty busy lately. Today was one of those days where someone comes looking for me every 10 minutes with some crazy question or problem. Since right now I'm working with one of our software developers (in his office, testing and developing new software) I think it's starting to drive him crazy. Welcome to my own special hell, buddy.
Apparently several attendees of PAX 2009 caught the H1N1 swine flu, or hamthrax as I like to call it. Neither Lorien nor I have any sickness symptoms. Woohoo!
Well we survived PAX 2009 in Seattle. It was pretty crazy, and there were tons of sweaty, nerdy gamers all over the place.
We met several famous people there, including Wil Wheaton (of Star Trek TNG fame), Steve Jackson, Jonathan Coulton, and Jhonen Vasquez.
We played several new board games, some that aren't even available yet. My favorite was Nanuk which we'll be ordering as soon as possible. The Stars are Right was also really fun, although a little bit harder to get started with. I don't mean this in a bad way, though. It's just such a different type of game than I've played before. Well-worth learning and playing.
We also got two Waiting For Santa packs for Munchkin. They still aren't available for purchase through normal venues, but they had a very limited quantity available at PAX. I was too late to get any of the Fairy Dust packs.
We also met the folks from Flying Frog Productions, creators of Last Night On Earth. We met the actors that play Sally and Jake and got autographed photos from them. We also picked up the expansion for LNOE and preordered three new expansions coming out later this year.
