Spare Time

Forenoon watch, 7 bells (11:53 am)

I was going to do so many things this past weekend, but ended up being so busy myself I just had no time for anything (sorry I couldn't make it, Ellie and Wade!)

Now I'm off to help my father-in-law build a staircase to the attic in their B&B.

Chimp Channel
Afternoon watch, 1 bell (12:54 pm)

I loved The Chimp Channel, it was one of those shows that never made it very long but was really funny. So, for your enjoyment, here are some monkeys in lingerie for you!

Tailgate Caution
Posted in Advice
Forenoon watch, 4 bells (10:17 am)

I just want to make a public announcement here. If you want to tailgate me when I'm going over the speed limit and faster than the flow of traffic, I will become your worst nightmare.

On my way to work a lady in a blue SUV was tailgating me—to the point where I couldn't see her headlights behind me, she was way too close. I was doing around 52 in a 45 mph zone. She started doing this after we were both stopped at a red light. Since she didn't back off, I slowed down until the ripped around to pass me, then I began pacing the car in front of her. She ended up moving back behind me because she had to be in that lane shortly (at least that's what I figure). Anyway, I stuck her good, and would do so again in a heartbeat. This is where I get the most joy out of driving.

So to reiterate, don't be an ass to me, and I won't ruin your day.

The Beeps Drive Me Mad
Posted in Tech
First dog watch, 4 bells (6:19 pm)

A droning beep was coming from my server room for the last two days. It was driving me crazy, but I didn't have enough time to take care of it. One of my mirrored drive arrays degraded (probably due to a power outage that took the machine down uncleanly). Anyway, I knew what was wrong but I couldn't shut it up!

Well, I finally got to it, and it's being rebuilt now. The only problem is it stops anybody from working remotely since it handles the VPN connections to the office. Oh well, you can't win them all.

The funny thing is I've fixed this problem before (that's how I knew what the problem was), but forgot that I put tape over the speaker on the RAID controller to shut it up. It silenced it a lot, but you could still hear it in the bathrooms and the hallway through the closed door. I took the tape off and almost went crazy, then I proceeded to fix it.

Here's a link to a cellular phone that won't ever fit in your pocket—though it does have the Bat-phone cool factor.

Well looks like they've disabled some things if you're not a "subscriber" now. Doesn't matter, I still love the game, and will fork out the $9.95 to subscribe. Game addiction is a terrible thing, and must be alleviated.

The game kicks pigu, though, and you really should subscribe. Play on Shulgoth server with me, I'm Wonko.

Shower Door Done!

First dog watch, 2 bells (5:08 pm)

I just finished up installing the new shower door, it's very nice. Installation took a little over 4 hours, but if I was doing it again it would probably take half the time. Pictures will be taken when the bathroom is complete (probably next week).

Excellent Caramel

First dog watch, 2 bells (5:07 pm)

Here's an Excellent Caramel Recipe for you:

1 cup sugar
3/4 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup light corn syrup
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Combine all ingredients except vanilla in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Heat at medium high, stirring just until sugar dissolves. Bring mixture up to 245° F (use a candy or deep frying thermometer). Remove from heat and immediately stir in vanilla. Mix thoroughly and pour into a greased glass pan or into parchment paper. Shape while it's cooling if desired. Refrigerate for about 30 minutes before cutting.
