My wife and I went out to eat about a week and a half ago, we went to Takara's in downtown Coeur d'Alene. It's only a few minutes' walk from her parent's Bed and Breakfast, so we parked there and walked (it was a Saturday night and there was no parking in the downtown area). After an immensely long wait, a small meal, and a larger bill, we left feeling like there was no reason to go back. The food was okay, but the experience was pretty disappointing. I'd heard stories like that before, but I'd never been there myself, so we thought we'd give it a try. As much as I hate to not recommend a restaurant, I have to say don't bother with it.
Speaking of Japanese food, there's a new restaurant going in on Appleway, East of the Chinese buffet Top of China, called Japan House (if I recall correctly). I wonder what it will be like?
As I was visiting my uncle last Friday (my brother Sam was in town so we had a get-together), I picked up some of his sourdough starter. It's the Giza culture from Egypt. I'll get around to making some sourdough bread after our upcoming vacation.
Remember the Federal Courthouse Groundbreaking I mentioned before? Well, today they've really started breaking ground. The Spokesman-Review only made fun of the fact that "no ground was broken" at the ceremony (they used potting soil). I saw at least one tree pushed over and dragged off from a window here. The squirrels were running for cover, let me tell you.
Which makes you think: does the ASPCA have an issue with squirrels falling out of trees? I've never heard them make any noise about it. Maybe they only care about animals that are over a certain weight or size…
Last Saturday night my wife really wanted to go see Ghost Rider. We were going to see it at the Valley Mall theatre, but we missed the beginning by about 30 minutes, so we decided to head back home and catch the later showing at the Riverstone theatre. It's interesting that she enjoys this type of movie at least as much as I do. I liked it, but overall it seemed a bit…contrived. The "last ride" with the cowboy was pointless, in fact, they never explained why they even needed to go to this ghost town out in the desert (surrounded by a healthy moat, of all things). Anyway, they do this whole "together" thing and then he hands him the rifle and disappears. WTF? I was expecting him to fight (and die) to protect the new hero, but no.
I wouldn't rate it too high on my movie scale, but it was entertaining. Thank goodness I had a couple of free tickets, so it really didn't cost me anything to see anyway.
