It’s been so long since I got any comments I’m starting to wonder if they work anymore…
Just as I thought, the comments weren’t working after I made a change. Teach me to not test my changes. Anyway, they’re back up and working now.
Sorry. Well, maybe not totally sorry, I’ve been getting a remarkably small amount of spam comments lately.
Today they’ve been knocking a lot of trees down. There’s a guy out with a chainsaw cutting limbs off the fallen trees, but the guy in the cat is doing most of the work. I saw some guys with shovels by the roadside, but I think they were the requisite “guys with shovels” you see at all construction sites, but never see them doing anything.
Is it me or is it extremely slow burning a CD in Vista???
I love Invader Zim. The show was great. If you are feeling generous, buy me this.
My wife and I went out to eat about a week and a half ago, we went to Takara’s in downtown Coeur d’Alene. It’s only a few minutes’ walk from her parent’s Bed and Breakfast, so we parked there and walked (it was a Saturday night and there was no parking in the downtown area). After an immensely long wait, a small meal, and a larger bill, we left feeling like there was no reason to go back. The food was okay, but the experience was pretty disappointing. I’d heard stories like that before, but I’d never been there myself, so we thought we’d give it a try. As much as I hate to not recommend a restaurant, I have to say don’t bother with it.
Speaking of Japanese food, there’s a new restaurant going in on Appleway, East of the Chinese buffet Top of China, called Japan House (if I recall correctly). I wonder what it will be like?
As I was visiting my uncle last Friday (my brother Sam was in town so we had a get-together), I picked up some of his sourdough starter. It’s the Giza culture from Egypt. I’ll get around to making some sourdough bread after our upcoming vacation.
Remember the Federal Courthouse Groundbreaking I mentioned before? Well, today they’ve really started breaking ground. The Spokesman-Review only made fun of the fact that “no ground was broken” at the ceremony (they used potting soil). I saw at least one tree pushed over and dragged off from a window here. The squirrels were running for cover, let me tell you.
Which makes you think: does the ASPCA have an issue with squirrels falling out of trees? I’ve never heard them make any noise about it. Maybe they only care about animals that are over a certain weight or size…
Last Saturday night my wife really wanted to go see Ghost Rider. We were going to see it at the Valley Mall theatre, but we missed the beginning by about 30 minutes, so we decided to head back home and catch the later showing at the Riverstone theatre. It’s interesting that she enjoys this type of movie at least as much as I do. I liked it, but overall it seemed a bit…contrived. The “last ride” with the cowboy was pointless, in fact, they never explained why they even needed to go to this ghost town out in the desert (surrounded by a healthy moat, of all things). Anyway, they do this whole “together” thing and then he hands him the rifle and disappears. WTF? I was expecting him to fight (and die) to protect the new hero, but no.
I wouldn’t rate it too high on my movie scale, but it was entertaining. Thank goodness I had a couple of free tickets, so it really didn’t cost me anything to see anyway.
I hate tax season. This is the first year that I actually owe money, and it’s a lot. We thought last year we fixed my wife’s withholding, but apparently not, becaue it looks like she barely paid any taxes at all last year. ![]()
I have one more week of work before vacation.
w00t and stuff.
I don’t know where my GPS receiver is.
PS I found it now. I could not stand the terrible irony of having lost my GPS.
I just bought two 20″ widescreen LCDs from Dell for $207 each. They’ve got a great sale going on. Website price is only $220. Get them while they’re cheap. They are 5ms refresh and 1680×1050.
If you read yesterday’s post, you know that I have a large-capacity compact flash card for my camera now. Despite the additional processing required, I think I may switch to storing my pictures in RAW format, not JPG. Despite the 12+Mb per picture storage requirements, I can still store around 280 pictures, more than enough for a day of sightseeing and picture-taking.
I have the software to process the RAW data and save the final results as a TIFF or JPG.
Anybody out there have any experience in this?
I’ve been going through my camera equipment getting ready for our trip (less than 2 weeks now!). I put in a new high-speed compact flash card, and the capacity is huge—over 900 pictures! My camera’s resolution is 6mp. This is the high-resolution setting, by the way. I can get a lot more at a lower res.
You might think that’s a lot of pictures, but think about this: I took over 1800 pictures on my honeymoon in Paris, London, and Ireland.
I love tacos. They’re one of those miracle foods that are cheap, good, and easy to clean up. One of the worst things while I was living overseas was the taco cravings. I suppose there are Taco Bell’s and what not over in Taiwan and China (a quick Google search isn’t terribly conclusive, but I was over there 10 years ago), but they weren’t around when I was there.
