Halloween Gag
Afternoon watch, 6 bells (3:03 pm)

I heard about this the other day:

Put a sign outside your door that says Be Honest, Just Take One. Happy Halloween, and put an empty bowl under it.

Afternoon watch, 5 bells (2:59 pm)

I have no idea where he got the idea, but one year my dad made a halloween treat nobody would eat. Here's what you need, and maybe you'll get the idea of where this is going:

Big box of Grape Nuts cereal
some powdered sugar
bag of Tootsie rolls
clean (preferably new) litter box

Put grape nuts in the litter box, dump the powdered sugar in and mix everything up. Warm up the Tootsie rolls a couple at a time, stretch them out a little and roll them in the "litter". They look very realistic if you do it right. Gross out your family and friends at your next Halloween party!

For best results, serve up with a litter scoop.

Phone Upgrade

Afternoon watch, 5 bells (2:55 pm)

I love my Motorola Razr v3 phone. Even though I got an early model, it fits in my pocket so nicely it never bothers me when I carry it. Then I found out that newer models could shoot video! So I felt kind of gypped.

So yesterday I backed up my phone, downgraded its bootloader, flashed and flexed it (but I kept my clothes on and it didn't break), and then restored my contacts and I was back in business with a new Razr that will record video.

You can get very detailed instructions at Hack the v3.

Happy Birthday

Forenoon watch, 5 bells (10:49 am)

Today is my wife's birthday. I got her a 23 quart pressure cooker and a copy of the Ball canning book. She's been wanting to get in to canning for a while but didn't have the right supplies.

Now I suppose I should go home early and wrap her presents (I neglected to do that so far). Except we are going to dinner at the American Cheesecake Cafe, next to my office, at 6pm tonight.

Forenoon watch, 5 bells (10:46 am)

Last night (for my final night out as Assistant Scoutmaster), we took the boys to the Spokane Valley YMCA—it's a nice place! They have a large indoor pool, and a second, big kiddie pool with a giant slide for kids and adults. A smaller hot tub sits by the entrance between the two pools. They also have a big rock-climbing wall as well as a "teen center" (several computers with games, a pool table, ping pong, and a foosball table), exercise rooms, a large basketball area, and a snack bar. And that was just the inside parts that I saw!

If I lived closer, and had the spare time or teenage kids, I'd definitely get a family pass. What a neat place to visit!
