Traditional Music

Afternoon watch, 4 bells (2:21 pm)

I haven't been playing much lately, and recently started getting back in to the habit. I remember most of the tunes I memorized before, some I need to look again at the music a few times, but muscle memory comes back, and I can fly through them pretty quickly once I get going. Anyway, I went back looking for tunes, and Henrik Norbeck's site is a wonderful cornucopia of trad music in abc format.

To get music from abc to a usable format, I use abc2ps, a great tool with lots of weird options. I've found my best results are when I use it as follows:
abc2ps -pm .25in -w 7.75in -o *.abc -Nk 2 -maxs 1600 -O =
That converts an entire directory full of abc tunes into postscript-formatted music pages.

Book Mooching
Forenoon watch, 6 bells (11:13 am)

I just ran across a new site, called BookMooch - New Life for Old Books—it looks like a great site to get rid of books you don't want (if you don't want to sell them to a used bookstore) and to get books you're looking for. Each book sent out gets you a point to get a book sent to you.

Well tonight is a special night, we're headed for some of the best steak in the country tonight—Wolf Lodge. I've been to several fancier steakhouses throughout the country, and have never had a better steak that what I can get right here.
