It’s sad when things like this make you think of this.
Yesterday was a nice day to stay at home and get some things done. I got a bunch of stuff done with my “secret project” that I’m not posting publicly about right now. I was going to do some yard work, but it was rainy in the morning, and I woke up with a bad headache, which I still have today despite my best efforts at ibuprofening it to death.
Lorien comes back tomorrow, it’ll be nice to have her back home. It’s been nice and quiet at home, which I must admit I really enjoy, but I’ll be glad she’s home.
Oh yeah, I replaced the dead plecostomus so we’ll have one. I also picked up about 20 guppies, which have either been eaten or sucked up by the filter (stupid fish). Oscar, the really big fish I have, is pretty agressive and likes to eat other fish. But there’s this one smart goldfish that lives in the little southwestern-style house feature at the bottom of the tank. He only comes out really quick to eat and then rushes back in to hide from Oscar. The plecostomus has moved in with him, and you can’t see him most of the time. I imagine the inside of the house has got tons of algae in it because the old pleco was too big to get inside.
I’ve finished 3D tiles of the following terrain types: water, gold, desert, pasture, hills, forest, field, mountain, jungle, and volcano.
I’ve also created an interchangeable system for the special port hexes. I have a single prototype with different coin-shaped tokens that fit on it to specify which exchange rate and which commodity that port supports: wool, ore, brick, grain, lumber, and ? (for 3:1 trades). Each of the tokens have a 3D representation of its commodity. I also created a possible prototype of a city, but I’m not 100% happy with it, so I may modify it or make a new one.
When Lorien gets back in town (tomorrow night), I’ll encourage her to get started on creating her terrain hexes so we can have a good assortment.
Still on the list to make are: settlements, cities (maybe), roads, ships, the robber, and the pirate. Also, I’m considering making victory point tokens and perhaps the building cost cards, the longest road and largest army cards, and maybe even a “Lord of Catan” medal for the winner.
Hooray for Holidays! Today I will thoroughly enjoy my day off, as I don’t get them very often. I have a few things to do around the house, but not that many. It is kick-back time…
This is great. You know you will use it:
Belly up in the tank
You were a good old fish
Now you have me to thank
For being a cat’s main dish
Sorry chum. Hehe, chum.
My stepmom said it was the shock of the move, or that he was “on the way out”, but I think I killed him by letting the tank get too hot. Poor guy.
No, it’s not a vending machine that sells Legos, it’s a vending machine made out of Legos.
Tonight I’m heading off to the movies with Lorien’s uncle to see XMen 3. I have no idea whether it will be good or not, but I’ve got a free ticket to get in, so all I’m out is my own time if it sucks.
Today I was at our Colocation Facility hooking up a KVM to the three systems that are out there. I had a D-Link 8 port KVM that I also use in the office (I have three daisy-chained together). Unfortunately, they don’t support USB mice—even with a USB to PS/2 adapter. So I dug around and got a PS/2 mouse, but nothing was working. So I plugged the mouse into my main server, still nothing. At this point I was getting worried, but it turned out that the mouse was bad, so once I tested a different one everything started working fine.
Today I discovered (somewhat belatedly) that there was a problem with our CRM system. Apparently about a month ago some information (over 93,000 records) had their country information set to NULL. Chances are real good that it was someone running a query and accidentally did it, but it’s difficult to pin down when it happened so long ago. I don’t even have the day it started, and nobody came and told me until I ran across it while demonstrating how to import records and was told: “Yeah, it’s been about a month since all the Country fields went blank”. DOH!
I tossed several methods of recovering the data, from restoring backup tapes of a month ago and copying the information from the old tables (at least it would fix most of our problem), but I think the best solution was this: For each Account, we have a Primary Contact. Each Primary Contact also stores country information. By assuming (and we’re 99.9% sure this is the case) that the Primary Contact for an Account resides in the same country as the Account is based, we can just set those fields equal to each other. This is true because each Account/Primary Contact pair was created from a single Lead that contained the original information, so unless somebody changed the Address of the Primary Contact to be in a different country, we’re okay. And if someone did, I’ll just blame it on them anyway
In the end, it took less than five minutes to write the SQL code to fix a problem that everyone in the office decided to “live with” instead of mentioning it to me. I know, I’m busy. But some things are easy to fix.
I learned something new last year on my honeymoon in Ireland. Did you know when you get Chinese food over there, you have the option to have it with rice or chips (yes, french fries). Weird, huh? They love their tubers over there…
Did you know William Shatner has his own DVD club???
Funny Followup: You could read it as shat nerd VD club dot com.
Looks like the folks at OpenSuSE (and Novell) have released the 10.1 version of SuSE Linux. Time to BitTorrent myself a copy of that dvd.
Today my time is up to head back to the blood bank and donate again! Yay blood!
My dad treated me to dinner last night at Schlotzsky’s Deli last night. It’s been several years since I last went there, and now I’m wondering why I haven’t gone in so long. Their sandwiches are darn good. It doesn’t hurt that my uncle recently bought the Coeur d’Alene franchise. We got free cookies last night, yum.
