New Checkbook
Posted in Hobbies
Afternoon watch, 6 bells (3:12 pm)

My checkbook fell apart, the weak plastic junk they give you at the bank just doesn't hold up after a year or two. I don't even know where to get a new one, aside from going in to the bank and asking for another one, so I decided to make use of a birthday present I received (four rolls of duct tape) and make my own. I already like it more than my old one, and not just 'cause it's not broken. My new one has a flap to keep my place, along with another flap so my carbon copies don't sink through to the next check.

Wedding Jitters

Afternoon watch, 5 bells (2:49 pm)

Today Lorien's family starts arriving at the airport. We have six days to the wedding and I'm getting real nervous. But if I run now my mother-in-law will hunt me down and frag me. And believe me, she already knows where to bury my body...

Firefox, 50 Million and counting!
Forenoon watch, 8 bells (12:02 pm)

The guys over at Firefox just passed their 50,000,000th download! I wouldn't want to be their network provider :)

But seriously, way to go, guys! Thanks for giving the rest of us a choice.

I changed my other site for a tribute. Go check it out, and download Firefox so they give me one of their spiffy coins!

Wedding Present
Posted in Warm and Fuzzy
Morning watch, 7 bells (7:47 am)

Last night I snuck off to Spokane while Lorien was at a meeting and bought her a wedding present—a jewelry armoire. They're hard to find, most furniture stores didn't carry them, or if they did, only carried one. JCPenny's had about 5 different ones, the only store in the Valley Mall that carried them. We looked at them together and she told me the one she liked (so this present isn't really a surprise).

Abit’s FTP Got “pwned”

Forenoon watch, 8 bells (12:22 pm)

This didn't last long, as soon as I went back to look at it again, it was gone. But I did get a screenshot. This is what you don't want to happen to your FTP site: Abit's FTP got pwned.

Make a Paper Camera
Forenoon watch, 3 bells (9:59 am)

I dug this article up from Make Magazine's website on how to make a paper camera. It's pretty cool, but primitive.

The Road is NOT Your Ashtray
Forenoon watch, 1 bell (8:50 am)

And I wish this would happen to every single person that thinks it is. Yes, it's a little mean, and yes, they deserve it.

Sasquatch Dream
Posted in Dreams
Morning watch, 8 bells (8:23 am)

I had a dream about hunting for sasquatch last night—it was real strange. I dreamt that Lorien's family were bigfoot hunters, and they used bait that looked like something from Fear Factor, with grubs, maggots, and other nasty stuff. Then (for some strange reason), they had to submerge the bait with two lit wicks (don't ask me how the flames didn't go out when it went underwater though). My job was lighting the wicks, and one of them went out as I was putting it underwater, and I had trouble getting it lit back up, but I finally did. Then we had to go to sleep and wait for bigfoot to show up, and then some family started arriving. Then I woke up.

I never got far enough to actually catch him.

Network Outages
Forenoon watch, 6 bells (11:08 am)

Today we had the distinct displeasure of trying to deal with Verizon and a network outage. Our T1 lines (voice and data) went down about 7am this morning. They just barely came back up. And it wasn't just us, it was the entire building. There are two other companies here and all their lines went down as well. I went across the street but nobody else was having any trouble. After constant trouble tickets and repeatedly calling in for escalation or more information (they never once called us back) I finally was told that they identified a cable problem and would have it fixed by noon. Well, why didn't someone call me back when they found that out?? I've been hounded all morning for answers and had to call every time to get anything. It sucked.

Invader Zim Marathon
Afternoon watch, 8 bells (4:29 pm)

Last weekend we did the Invader Zim marathon, watched all three DVDs. What a cool show. I love Gir, the robot—he's my favorite character. But Zim is real close, he says the funniest stuff.
