I found out about The Amazing Race 8 applications when I went to the website to find out more about this season of Survivor. We have an office pool going, twenty people pick a name at random out of a bag for their Survivor, winner take all. Lorien and I drew Kim—so you go girl!
CBS is taking applications for The Amazing Race 8, with a new twist—four person teams! I called Lorien as soon as I found out and we are going to send in an application with her sister and brother-in-law and see what happens. It would be sweet if we made it on, as the race would begin right after we came home for our honeymoon.
I was walking through Target today looking for some supplies to put together a Honeymoon Travel Itinerary and passed by an aisle with a sign that read "Ethnic Hair Products". Hehe. I'm not quite sure what those are, and I didn't have the nerve to venture down the aisle to satisfy my curiosity. Or perhaps I just didn't have time. Or maybe—just maybe—I didn't really care.
Yesterday afternoon my car got heart-attacked—I'll post a picture as soon as I have one. I was the envy of the office, and everybody leaving the parking lot had to stop by and look at my car:

Normally I wouldn't have to post about this, but I have been really frustrated and need to vent. About 5 years ago, I wanted to build a home, and couldn't get a loan because I had no credit. So I started with a secured deposit visa card at Bank of America. I ended up getting a loan through a mortgage broker (my step-brother, actually). So after about a year or so, they converted my card to a normal visa, but never released my deposit to me. So I went to track it down. My local branch gave me a customer service number to call, which I did. They proceeded to bounce me between departments until I got frustrated (I have spent over 2 hours on the phone with them just to fix this single problem). I called the credit card department and they said I needed to talk to savings, in savings they said they don't handle this stuff, and transferred me back to credit cards. Even my teller, who was standing right next to me as this was happening, was amazed at how difficult this process was. I finally got somebody that had more than a few grams of gray matter in their head and fixed my problem.
I'm not one to complain about my bank, I've been there for many years and have rarely had a problem, but this one was just plain retarded, and is seriously making me consider switching.
I just left my workstation for a few minutes and came back to a bouncy cow screensaver—it was a cow bouncing up and down. I didn't even know I had one like that (I have my desktop set to use random screensavers). I may have to change to that one permanently.
Well, it's happy for those people that have valentines, anyway. Other people call it Single Awareness Day. My valentine is leaving tomorrow morning for a week in California. But it's all right, gives me some time to do some things at home. My cats barely know who I am, I spend so little time there.
This morning at about 9:30 my stomach just would not stop growling—I had to eat the lunch I brought right then and there. Which means I'm going to need to get something else later. I shouldn't have skipped breakfast...
I just heard that Ossie Davis passed away. He was in Bubba Ho-Tep with Bruce Campbell, and was in at least 80 movies since the 1950's.
Today was definitely much better than yesterday. I had plenty of time to work on my project, which should have been done a week ago. It's great, because I completed several new features, and it's all because of the framework I built up. Since I spent a lot of time on the framework, adding new features to the program is a trivial task. I added at least four major features this afternoon alone! I bumped the version number of my program two dots (from 0.5 to 0.7) because of all the major changes.
I love it when I do something and find out later that it was just about the best thing I could have done.
One day we were sitting around thinking up good slogans for our software product, and my favorite one was:
(insert product name here): It's not just good, it's good enough.
Today was busy, and it felt like nothing got done. I hate days like this.
Oh yeah, I was going to write a little about my dead battery:
It was a Sears DieHard, and it died....hard.
Last night my brother came over to borrow my spare car, which I haven't driven in 18 months. I didn't have it registered, but I did take care of that at lunch yesterday. I was a little worried, since I hadn't started it up since I got my PT Cruiser. We jump-started it and it ran for a good 15 minutes, and then just died. It wouldn't even jump again. So I drove over to Wal-Mart and picked up a new battery after consulting my dad, who said the battery was most likely toast after sitting so long. He was right, as usual. Put the new battery in and it fired right back up. I'm glad I never terminated my insurance for it, because he really needed it right away, since he's started a new job already this morning in Spokane and had no other way to get there.
I did NOT watch the superbowl, nor do I know (or care) who won. I don't even know who played. I didn't even watch the commercials everyone is talking about today. So there!
