Well I'm back. It didn't take very long to locate the problem. SuSE Linux was originally installed with 512Mb RAM, and I added another 512Mb stick today, but the system hung on reboot. I supplied the extra argument mem=1024M at the grub loader stage and everything booted up fine. I edited /boot/grub/menu.lst and added the mem argument to the end of the kernel line for my default boot kernel and I am ready to go. Hope that helps someone else out there some day.
This system will be in Yo-Yo mode until I get it to recognize the extra RAM I just got in.
Sorry for the trouble, back with more info when I get it fixed.
MP told me that a bird landed on the steps outside by the smoking area and tucked its head under its wing and just stopped moving. It's lying on the ground, having fallen over after it kicked the bucket.
Yes, it's cold outside. A sign I passed while out to lunch said 8F. Not my idea of a balmy winter.
The Cassini-Huygens landing is an inspiration to the entire world! Congratulations on a great job!
I posted a bunch of new pictures, mostly from Christmas, in the Gallery. Also posted those old pictures from my Kentucky trip (finally). Next is the Grand Canyon trip pictures.
Tonight should get down to 10F (-12C). Tomorrow also. Friday will be real cold, -2F (-19C). Time to break out the warm jacket...
For those of you that haven't had the pleasure of meeting her, this is a picture of me and my soon-to-be wife.

These boys should have kept their stupid mouths shut.
Funny stunt, with a dangerous edge. The best part is they really wouldn't have gotten caught if they hadn't bragged to their friends about what they'd done.
Pepsi has a new flavor—Diet Wild Cherry. It's great. I hope it's here to stay. I want more.
We're getting our announcement list together, and I need names and addresses. Please send me your name and address if you want an announcement/invitation as soon as you can. Today, even.
You can send it to my yahoo address.
Thanks, and hope to see you there.
I got to play some MaJiang (Mah Jong) last night, something I haven't done in years. I love the game, but you really need 4 people to play, so it's not something I get to do very often. We played 5 hands before it was just too late (almost 2am). The odd thing was my second hand, I was dealt an an gang, 4 of a kind, that's never happened to me before. I've peng'd 3 of a kind and drew the 4th before, but never have been dealt all 4 to start the game. It was cool.
Because there's nothing better when you're sick. I slept so good last night after chugging some down. Best night sleep I've had all week.
Well these last few days haven't seen much blog activity, the reasons are twofold: I am getting sick (again), and work is very busy. I'm working on the security software for our next release. We're also getting ready to send half the office to the biggest trade show of the year for us. So there's a lot going on.
TiVo just released TiVo To Go, which lets you move recorded programs from your TiVo unit to your computer. Way to go, guys!
The Polar Bear Plunge was very cold. My hair froze walking back to the car. To warm up, we jumped in to the hot tub at the Inn—that hurt. It was fun, though. Really wakes you up, that's for sure. Some people got in early, and were just standing in the water. Others went out for a prolonged swim (I don't know how they could manage to do that, it was all I could do to duck my head underwater). Most people were just there to watch, though.
