Poor Fiance

Afternoon watch, 4 bells (2:20 pm)

My poor fiance had to leave town today, after just getting back yesterday from Kentucky. She had to take some of AH’s things back to her since she moved back to Seattle for school. I saw her for a minute this morning, before my root canal, and wished her a safe and fun trip. She won’t be back tonight, which is just as well, since I’m probably going to sleep off the effects of it today. Did I need to mention I took the day off today?

Root Canal

Afternoon watch, 4 bells (2:18 pm)

Well, as you probably know, I had my root canal this morning. It wasn’t too bad, except after telling the dentist that I’m resistant to novacaine and take longer to go numb, he still hit a nerve and had to give me an injection directly at the nerve, which hurt like hell. I mean it really hurt, but thankfully was over quickly. The rest of the root canal went fine. I found out that my tooth (#19) was very unique. Not only did it have 6 cusps, it also was 25mm long (about 6mm longer than normal), and one of the canals made a 90 degree bend. I’m glad it is over now, and hope that my recovery doesn’t leave me too sore.

Old Friends Meet Up

Afternoon watch, 4 bells (2:15 pm)

While in Kentucky, I met TB and her boyfriend M. I went to school with T back in Oregon, before I moved to the Coeur d’Alene area. It was so good to see her again. We had lunch together, at Penn Station, they had great subs. I really appreciate her driving so far just for so short a visit. It was nice just to sit and talk. We keep in contact as regular as we can with e-mail, but it’s nothing like being face to face. I hope we’ll have many more chances in the future.

Back in Town

Afternoon watch, 4 bells (2:12 pm)

I got back into town last night. The trip to Kentucky was great, and I really enjoyed meeting my future in-laws. Granny’s 75th birthday party was crazy, and the karaoke just wouldn’t stop. It went for at least 7 hours. Unfortunately, something about the South makes people listen to (and sing) exclusively country music, which I just can’t stand, and neither can Lorien. But we suffered through it.

I did get to meet M, Lorien’s brother in law. He’s really cool, and I can tell we’ll never have a problem getting along. We went Krogering for some root beer, but I didn’t find anything I didn’t already have, although I bought some Big Red soda for Lorien, since she loves it and it’s hard to find up here.

Granny’s cooking was great, Lorien kept telling me that to her and many Southerners, Food is Love. And Granny just wouldn’t stop feeding us. Everyone surprised her with a trip to Hawaii for her birthday, so she was very happy and excited.
