Those Darn Comment Spammers

Afternoon watch, 6 bells (3:02 pm)

Today a new chapter dawns on the commercial comment posters. A large network (80.0.0.0/8) in Amsterdam has now been banned for two commercial spam comments on this blog as per my new Terms of Service. Not that I needed any more reason, but hey, I have them now.

So to update the score it is roughly:

Spammers: 60
Jacob: 49.4 million

This time I caught them by moderating comments that contain links only. That’s why the comments broke last week. But I got them fixed. And they’re working good now.

Busy Day Yesterday
Posted in General
Forenoon watch, 3 bells (9:30 am)

Well yesterday was extremely busy. We were down at the Coeur d’Alene Resort for a full day of our first User Meeting. Things went pretty well, starting with a breakfast at 8am (I had to set up audio and video at 7am), and several classes were taught by our developers and trainers throughout the day. I was around fixing problems, running errands, etc the whole day. At 5pm, we had a “CAD Shootout”, where several individuals and teams had 30 minutes to draft a 4 bedroom, 3 bath home with a 2-story deck and dormers on a provided terrain map (with setbacks). It was very entertaining, and we gave out lots of door prizes and awards. For the shootout, though, it was a lot of work. MS and I set up an entire network of laptops so we could remotely display screens from any contestant on the projector screen. It went off without a hitch, which was amazing considering the technical complexity of what we had to do and how much time (2 hours) we had to do it in.

Taking everything down was pretty rough, as nobody bothered to pick up any of their areas. I had to go back to each teaching room and pack up projectors (which were just left behind by the last intructors). Then MS and I took down the network we just built and packed everything up. We were done at about 8pm. It was a long day full of work.
