Afternoon watch, 6 bells (3:02 pm)

This is an excerpt taken from a page I found browsing through Google groups, quite by accident. I find it very funny.

I have been shocked by 110 volt house current a number of times, I kind of enjoy it. I have also stalled car engines by simply taking hold of the distributer and grounding the system Enjoy that also.

Return to Return of the King
Posted in General
Forenoon watch, 2 bells (9:26 am)

Well LH and I are going to see ROTK tonight (after dinner). When The Two Towers came out, I only saw it once at the theatre, and waited until the special edition dvd came out before I saw it for the second time. By that time, I'd forgotten most of the movie. I didn't want to wait for such a long time again before seeing such a great movie.

The books were still better, though. But the book is always better than the movie.

Laptops

Forenoon watch, 2 bells (9:20 am)

I finished the last two laptops that I was working on before I left for Portland just before Christmas. With those behind me, I only have three new computers to build and two more to reformat. So much for the rest of this week...

Ice Skating
Posted in General
First watch, 4 bells (10:22 pm)

Wow, what an experience! I just got back from ice skating for the first time. I only fell once, just after I got in the rink for the first time. My feet started to hurt and I had trouble standing on the skates, but I switched them for a larger pair and that made a world of difference. (pause while I feed Mr. Pookies some catnip—he's tearing at the container). I didn't fall again (though I did come pretty close several times), and LH was a dear and stuck with me even though she skates much better than I do. She helped me out when I was about to fall a few times, and set me straight when I seemed to be turning for no reason.

It was really cold out, but the skating rink had a roof over it (though it was open all around the sides). The walk back to the car was much colder than skating on the ice was. My feet are a bit sore, but not too bad.

LH and I ended up talking in the car for another hour after we got back. It's almost scary how many things we have in common, even our like for Bruce Campbell movies. (That was a surprise). We're going out again tomorrow to dinner and to see the Return of the King.

Ice Skating

Forenoon watch, 3 bells (9:45 am)

I'm going ice skating tonight with LH (she talked me into it, it's a branch activity that she got guilt-tripped into attending). I've never been ice skating, but I'll give it a try. MP told me to videotape myself, because he wants to watch it. What a chump 🙂

The Embarassing Mall Trip
Posted in General
First dog watch, 3 bells (5:35 pm)

Well, where do I start this story? Todd and I went to see a movie (Paycheck, it was decent). After the movie, we thought we'd stop by and see Sam at his work since neither of us wanted to go home and sit and watch TV. So we get there and not 5 minutes later Jodie and Andrew show up with Wes in tow. Betsy was in the mall, shopping. They needed to get some clothes and shoes for Wes. So Todd and I ended up going around with them in the mall. (I think that was my mistake). Anyway, shopping gets done (that's an entire story in itself, but not for now) and Betsy remembers she needs pantyhose for the wedding so she has to go to Victoria's Secret.

Well, let me tell you, that's not a store for a bunch of guys to go to. We ended up going anyway, and Todd hosed me down with some perfume before I could get away from him (I told you it was wild). So I smelled this stuff the rest of the night, it was strong and all over me. Then we go out since they're getting ready to close the store.

Outside the store was a little kiosk selling hermit crabs and nice aquariums for them with pained homes, fancy rocks, etc. Todd asks the young-ish girl working there if they buy crabs. She said they sell crabs, so he replies But do you buy them, because (this is where he points at me) he has them. The poor girl didn't even see it coming. She just looked away and went back to work. Meanwhile, Todd is nearly rolling on the floor laughing, along with Andrew.

Back in Town

First dog watch, 2 bells (5:25 pm)

I'm back in town now, after several days with nothing but my cell phone and WAP browser for an internet connection—ack!

Anyway, the wedding was great, it was good to see so much family. I found a few things out (about some of the family) I really wish I rather didn't know, but I guess when people get together they talk. It was also good to see Betsy and her daughter. Oh, did I leave out Todd? 🙂

I can only hope that, one day after I'm long gone, pirates come and steal my bones. That would be cool.

The Truth About Santa

Afternoon watch, 3 bells (1:43 pm)

Sorry, kids: Santa Claus died centuries ago, and his bones were stolen by pirates

And if you think this is just funny, and not true, please read about it:
Turkish group demands that Italy return St. Nicholas' bones.

Italians again. What did I tell you?

Understanding Our Friends, the Italians
Posted in General
Forenoon watch, 6 bells (11:26 am)

To understand the Italians, you must first understand Pokey. Start with this cartoon from the archives. It explains a lot.

I can't figure out if the Pokey the Penguin authors are evil geniuses or just retarded. You be the judge. In any case, we agree about the Italians.

The Next Few Days

Forenoon watch, 1 bell (8:30 am)

I'll be out of town for the next couple days, and may or may not have 'net access, so if I don't blog until Sunday I didn't croak or anything. I fly out tomorrow morning for Portland, won't be back until Sunday morning.
