I was playing with Mr. Pookies this morning, and he didn't want me to pet him, so I put him on my bed and rolled him over on his back so I could pet him anyway. He let me do this for a minute, then started to get a little feisty. He got up on his feet and was eyeing my hand, so I pulled it away. Instead of going after now-gone hand, he pounced at my chest. I caught him so he wouldn't dig his claws into me too deep (I was standing up, so he would have been hanging on with his claws), but not before he gave me something to remember him by. He jumped down and ran off, and as I was leaving he gave me the stare. The I'd cut you in two with my claws but I don't want to move right now stare.
Well Saturday my dad and brother Wes came over and we pulled weeds in my front yard. It only took us about 2 hours to clear the entire front yard, but the back yard is about 4 or 5 times bigger. I think that since it rained a couple weeks ago, it softened things up a lot, so the job was much easier.
After that, I helped dad put a cd-rw and a modem and a new printer on his computer. We found out that if you're in the market for an entry-level color printer, it's acually cheaper to buy one for $50 and throw it away when it runs out of ink and buy a new one. Is that crazy or what? Ink cartridges are so expensive that you actually can buy a brand new printer for the same price, or lower, than you can buy the replacement ink. Of course, that's not true for the more expensive printers, but it sure is for the cheap ones.
What a strange world we live in...
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Well tonight we had a little pick-up game of poker, (we being myself and 3 coworkers, JT, MP, and TS). It was a lot of fun, and lasted about 2 1/2 hours. We talked about everything from office gossip (I didn't know there was any) to haggis. They were all admiring this canned haggis I brought home from my trip to Scotland. TS said Capones (a local sports bar) served haggis so I asked "But is it good haggis??" JT quickly responded "Is there any other kind?" (sarcastically, he doesn't like the idea of eating haggis).
MP said it's a good thing there isn't any drinking going on here, because it'd be dangerous - I have several cans of questionable foodstuffs in the cupboard. Apart from the haggis, I have a can mysteriously labelled Fish Balls, a tin of fried eel, quail eggs in water, and (my personal favorite) Preserved Unleaded Duck Eggs. Just the drinking games and dares alone were enough to make them all cringe.
In any case, it was a fun day. Played a game of cutthroat racquetball after work, then a game of doubles, then another single game. Our poker game just got over and TS drank too much (he was drinking before he got here), so MP drove him home, and his car is sitting in my driveway.
Well, it's after midnight now, and time for me to hit the sack.
I broke down and bought a nice fleece blanket, it's a king-size red fleece blanket, and it looks snuggly and warm. The weather has cooled off quickly, but isn't really cold yet, not quite jacket weather (unless you hail from warmer climes). It's about 40F when I get up to go to work in the morning (6am usually, but maybe not anymore with such a nice comfy blanket...)
I played 3 rounds of cutthroat racquetball with JS and JT from work, they are both quite good (better than me), and they were very fast-paced games, although the scoring was a bit on the slow side.
I was still a little sore from yesterday, but made it through 3 games and really enjoyed it, I can feel I'm improving.
Okay, everybody's saying it nowadays because of all the gaping security holes. I'm saying it because they fixed it so IE thinks my .xhtml files that are served out as Content-type: application/xhtml+xml by the webserver are evil applications to exploit their precious browser. They used to work fine, now IE "fixed" some security hole by just eliminating the problem all together.
Today I played 7 games of racquetball after work. I'm beat. I'm going to bed early tonight.
I stopped in on Galaxies to check some stuff, and got an error about being inappropriate when I tried to rename my equipment factory to the SynCorp WTF. Apparently WTF is a bad offensive abbreviated piece of text. It stands for the SynCorp Weapon Technology Foundry (see the website, although it hasn't been updated in ages).
Man it's a crazy world when college freshmen do this kind of stuff...

Well, it's another slow-starting Monday morning. Still nothing new going on, though I could have used an extra day off. Been working with JM on our new MUD project, but we're just getting it off the ground. He's been doing most of the work, I'm still trying to get a handle on the pike interpreted language. It's cool, but very strange sometimes. We have a development board (the old syncorp board) here.
I played poker in the cafeteria today during lunch, it was cool. I learned how to play Texas Hold-em. We've been trying to get a poker night going for a couple weeks now between several of us at the office, hopefully it'll start happening soon.
Today I took a racquetball shot in the back, right between my shoulder blades, a return off my serve. I have a very red very round welt on my back now. It makes my "Things that are Not Cool" list.
Well today I had my annual review, and it went quite well. I've grown and matured a lot in my job, and this next year looks like it'll be really great. I'm excited to work at ART, we really have a great bunch of people here.
